OLDEN GIRL AND FRIEND DIEM

Fine rains’ sprinkling on olden temples
Taper fingers of bright eyes times
Autumn leaves whistle round the fine heels
Road leads so deep to your eyesight

“Diem Xua”, a Trinh-Cong-Son love song that goes beyond a song of love of the normal love stories.

Far beyond the song of love story, here it is a song of other special meanings of art, of history, and of human sentimental value as well.

The bold image of the song is the olden temples the listeners could never bypass. This cannot-bypass image of olden temples fasten with scenes of the continue rains and the young girls of life.
People all around the world today are not unaware of a series of the olden temples located along the hundreds-kilometer long region in the middle of Vietnam, from QuangNam, QuangNgai, BinhĐinh to NinhThuan, BinhThuan. These priceless olden temples built during the 7th century to the 17th century by ancient people of Champa, a nation who was in ruin about 300 years ago as result of the bitter years-conflicts between the neighbors.

A part of Champa people have still lived in same region as an ethnic minority among the Vietnamese who are majority today.

Under the eyes of an archaeologist, these temples are the treasure of history stories.
Under the eyes of an enlightenment artist, these temples are the treasure of arts. With some special artists, like poet BaHuyen ThanhQuan, or musician TrinhCongSon for example, these olden traces not only told us the dramatic human love stories of the history but also remind people something possible to adjust the viewpoints of the life meaning that could make our present life coming better.

Poet BaHuyen ThanhQuan wrote the immortal poem of Thang Long Thanh Hoai Co (The Nostalgia of Castle ThangLong) in which she portrayed the painful picture of the rising up and falling down of the dynasty in this impermanent world and shared her feeling of the sadness of those rising and fading things.

Composing the song Diem-Xua (Olden Girl and Friend Diem), musician TrinhCongSon made millions of people loving to sing or listen passionately for decades.

Taper fingers of bright eyes times

The song flowery blended the feelings inside from the human heart and the feelings outside from nature where people stand in front of the wordless scenes. Not sure if it is wonderful scene or painful scene. Not sure if it made you feeling happy or feeling sad. Not sure if it is the feeling for the present or the feeling for the past.

We the listeners have been absorbed to the combined images of the song, from the painful images of the deserted temples to the mixed feeling of the human heart.

Rains’ still often on rows of leaves
Sit looking at rain afternoons
Leaves fall down on your feet quietly
Young hearts start cold feeling bitter

What a picture! What a rich-sound-and-color song! It looks sad. It sounds sad. Rain, rain and rain, the cold rains still pour silently year after year on the temples, the moss-grown strong temples – the significant trace of a civilization of a nation ruined hundreds of years ago. The leaves of autumn – or the leaves of time – still fall down on the quiet roads, on the quiet temples of a former dynasty where today people pass and your fine heels have passed with or without learning its history values. You a visitor walks on the road of history. You a random wander walks on the road full of autumn leaves of history. You the girls of old or modern term, both are seemly in the scene full of sadness and beauty, inside and outside the temples, inside and outside the souls of the past or the souls of today.

Fine rains’ sprinkling on olden temples
Taper fingers of bright eyes times

It seems lucky that it is hard seriously to clear where the gently feeling of the taper fingers come from. Some wonder if the feeling come from the taper fingers of the stone statues or from the taper fingers of the live girls or from Diem’s taper fingers, or from any other ones of the young girls of bright eyes times.

Wherever the feelings from, all are beautiful pictures, all are wonderful feelings, and all created the sense of vague and boundless beauty.

Rains’ still often so storm of life
Recall hard trace of birds moving
Let rains go through the large region
For wander-man sinks nomad life

Today this afternoon the fine rain of life continue around us.
Do not know what storm paining us tomorrow. Do not know where later the storm moving us to.

Whatever the nomad life may confuse us, whatever the impermanent world may displease us, it is not the reason we make us ourselves in pain from lone. The forever fact is: people need people. You, darling, do not hesitate to come to have each other right today.

Rains’ still often so storm of life
Pain to learn history tombstone
Let rains go through the large region
Even the rocks need live together

Various kinds of rain still often pour over the human life. Different kinds of storm still thunder over the human world. Dangers daily threat the human living, not only danger from the natural risk, but also from the people ourselves as well. Human history told us that people have often been one’s own enemies in the thousands of bitter stories of eastern and western worlds, ancient and present times.

Rains’ still often so storm of life
Pain to learn history tombstone
Let rains go through the large region
Even the rocks need live together

Here something people could read from history. Let those pains tell us the lesson. You may do not know if the rock feeling in pain, but you may know the rocks have stood together side by side as the role of history for people of next generations. If the rocks did, why people did not? Let the bitter rains of life go through the large region of forgiveness. Let people love living together today, every moment, not wait for the time tomorrow.

Here something the picture of the temples reminding us: Understand the pains people suffered and try ourselves to stop the pain whenever we can. While the time continual going forward the infinite future, if we understand all of us will become the same ruins soon later, as these temples were. Let the bitter rains of life go through the large region of forgiveness. Let people love living together today, every moment, not wait for the time tomorrow.

Rains’ afternoon but no you come
If tomorrow bad sick
None each other pain together
Quickly you should go back

Diem, look at and learn from the olden brick temples again. They are yesterday while we are of today. Be not tepid to come to have each other right today. Enjoy every second of day, reap happy every minute of life. We have had the sole life - this life – and we have not any different life. Don't wait. Don't waste any second of life.
